Okay, time to post a blog with an image from Flickr.
I chose this image of my grandmother because I had it handy and its one of several that my mother asked me to scan in.
This picture was taken circa 1910 in Boulder City WA, before her family moved to Victoria. One thing I notice about a lot of pictures from this era, is hardly anyone smiles.

Actually the no smiling thing is thought to be at least partially due to the fact that most people, even at a young age, didn't have a great set of teeth to show off in that day and age. Pre-library I was a dental nurse...
