From a purely cosmetic point of view, the new basic search interfaces are much less cluttered and imposing to your average user, they are Google like in their simplicity with a single search window.
Pfffft, who am I kidding, I just can't get enthused about them until they are the primary interface we use and replace the current cluttered versions.
