Feed Me, Feed me Now!!!

Chugging on down the list of 23 Things, its time for some news feeds.

As the 23 Things task list asks, "Blog about how you might be able to use this technology in your work or personal life. Perhaps even think about how can libraries use RSS to engage patrons."

Naturally the big thing about RSS is you select what you want to receive information on and it is delivered to you in a brief summation format. Take for example .......ummm, the library industry (just off the top of my head) and say you worked in acquisitions and needed to keep abreast of the latest releases. Well, using RSS via ............ ummmmm Google Reader, u can subscribe to a vast selection of publishing houses, book vendors etc and in conjunction with some book review feeds, you can be kept up to date on the latest releases and their critical assessment.

RSS can be used to engage patrons by simply having a news feed, as VU does, which can list upcoming events such as library facility tutorials, new technology releases, staff changes, key dates in the library calender, new opening hours, additions to the catalogue; anything that the library does/offers that patrons have a need to know of.

In one's private life, naturally you can select feeds on sports, news, weather, or whatever subjects interest you, the possibilities are endless.

Well, I am one beer less, and one task less, time to move on to the next beer ........ and task.
